When planning a trip you probably have access to the Internet, but we know that a guide goes with you on your trip and that you do not have Internet access everywhere you go. Our guides are downloaded and installed onto your iPad or iPhone and you have access to maps and points of interest wherever you go.
Our guide apps use the built-in GPS of your iPad or iPhone to locate you on the map. This way you can easily see where you are in relation to points of interest, or simply to orientate yourself on the map.
The app is build to showcase our content, not the other way around. Tracks4Africa has become synonymous with detailed information which is relevant to self-drive tourists. You may want to know if a town has fuel and shops, or a nice campsite. Detailed content includes Places, Attractions & Activities, Parks, Scenic routes, Lodging, Camps, Food & Drink, Fuel, Shopping, Services, and more. See each guide's description for content that is included.
Maps are built from our own map data and carefully crafted into a familiar look and feel that brings out the features you will need on the road. You can zoom in and out of the maps to get a good overview of the country, or see the detailed 4WD tracks in remote areas.
If you are not familiar with Tracks4Africa maps and content, have a look at our home page for more information on how the travelling community contributes their experience to our maps and guides.
The app is packed with detail, yet easy to use. The search functions allows you to enter the name of a place. The map location will be taken into account to give you results which are relevant to your location. You can further filter the type of results you get by simply selecting a content category. For example, if you are looking for fuel in Rundu, you type 'Rundu' in the search box, and select the fuel icon from the categories to only see fuel stops in Rundu. Need a lodge in Rundu? Simly click the Lodge icon without having to repeat your search phrase.
The app itself is free. It comes with a few selected areas that allows you to evaluate the experience you could expect when buying an in-app guide. So, there is no reason to hesitate.
To keep content fresh, we will update the content and maps from time to time. The guides will be sold as editions, and each edition will be kept up to date for 2 years from when it was launched. The guide will not expire, so you can keep on using it, but newer editions will be on offer.
The app includes a help overlay to point out what each button on the app is used for. There is also an area where you can manage your guides and buy new titles.
The app is currently only compatible with the Apple iPad and iPhone.
We know that there are many Android users out there and while we have decided to launch the app on iPad and then iPhone too, we intend to develop the app for Android as well.
